Allison's Travels in Europe: Green Light District

Tuesday August 20th

It's Maren writing Allison's blog again, because she's too lazy to do it!

After going to sleep at 3 AM last night we needed to sleep in, so we didn't get up before noon. So much to do, so little time..

Yesterday we decided that we should try to reduce our expenses. We went straight to the supermarket to get breakfast. We bought yoghurt, some bread, a cream cheese and some American cheese (can't believe they have that in Denmark and not in Norway!!).

We sat down and ate some food before heading to Christiania. We tried finding the free state yesterday and kinda thought we did, but this guy working at our hostel told us that we would know for sure if we did. We were so close to it yesterday though, it's unbelievable that we didn't look harder to find it.

Inside Christiania there was graffiti everywhere. People were selling rings, bracelets, purses and of course weed.

We wanted to Vine (a new video sharing app) while walking around. We figured that we could try and be sneaky so we started filming trying to make it look like we were just looking on our phones. Well that didn't work out. These two guys started shouting "no photos!!!" and ran over and grabbed our phones causing "a huge scene" according to Allie! People were staring while we explained that we were sorry and that we would delete our photos. "Shame on you girls" they said. Haha we were kinda shaken up. So this was in the Green Light District where everyone was selling drugs illegally and we obviously didn't go back there.

After walking around in Christiania for a few hours we found a bench and ate the rest of our food. We were feeling so tired and just wanted to find a park where we could lay on the grass. Since there were no parks around we sat down on the grass outside of a church. Not long after we both fell asleep.

Afterwards we found a really nice place down by the canal. We bought Italian pizza and just sat there in the sunshine having a blast.

We returned to our hostel. Our lovely home away from home! Ha!

We packed all our stuff since we were going out again and leaving the next morning. The singer from last night is playing at the Irish bar tonight as well. Since we're his new groupies we feel obligated to go. On the way back to the hostel we bought some beer and cider that we can drink before going out. Smart ladies! We sat outside playing cards and drinking. So much fun!
