I woke up in my hostel sweating bullets and 5 other strangers rolling around in their beds as the sun peaked in the windows at 6 am. Having gone to bed around 2:30, I knew I was going to be exhausted but there was no chance I was going to fall back asleep. I figured I would wake up and start to plan for what I am going to do after Munich.
The hostel had a free breakfast which was great! I was not expecting that from a hostel.
I met a couple last night who told me about a teeny tiny town called Gruna im antal in Austria that is a must see and is by far their favorite little hide away they have found in Europe. They said I have to stay at this hostel called the treehouse and the local man that owns it makes every meal himself for the guests.
I am going to make it there! After spending 4 hours researching this I realized it is incredibley hard to get to!
After a lot of coffee and frustration that I was getting absolutely no where, I decided to just move on with my day.
Well then I was annoyed I spent that much time and didn't make one plan so I had to do something about that.
I strapped on the backpacks, checked out of my hostel (because I am sleeping at another hostel), and headed out towards the train station.
I had to get a few things accomplished. I was walking around the train station figuring out how to buy a tram ticket to my next hostel, and I saw DB Bahn signs.
With a hostel booked in Salzburg the 8-13, I had 3 days in between Munich and Salzburg with no plans. I ended up buying a ticket to Salzburg for the 5th and told myself I would figure it out later with the hostel bookings.
I am just realizing this is a long and boring story for you but that is exactly how I felt at the time, tired and just making spontaneous decisions.
I figured out the whole tram System and took it 15 min outside of the city to my hostel I will be at for 3 nights. It's always in the prime of the day with my backpacks on that I learn each city. I'm a pro once I'm free of luggage and ready to be touristy so I guess that's a good thing.
Made it to THE TENT!
It is a campground as well as one huge tent with 100 beds. The atmosphere is pretty cool and when I got there everyone was just sitting in hammocks, sunbathing and just hanging out.
They gave me 2 blankets when I checked in and said I can pick any bed.
I picked the bed furthest from the door and in a little corner for my things.
I brought some food from the other hostel so I sat down to look at my map and plan my day. I got talking with 2 German boys and they gave me a few tips on where to go and what to see. Very nice guys.
I figured I should get moving since I wasted half of my day by now.
I hopped on the tram to head back to the city. It was nice being alone so then I could hop on and off whenever I felt. We cruised by the Nymphenburg palace so the next stop I just got off and walked around.
Then I took the tram to Marienplatz and just walked around through the heart of the city.
the townhall
St. Peter's church
Hofbrauhaus
English gardens
Munich surfers- so much fun to watch
I have to come back here and swim in the river before I leave!
Chinese tower beer garden
I sat alone and people watched. A German band played in the top of the honest tower and I just drank my beer and ate my pretzel. This is where I was supposed to meet the boys but it is such a huge place there was no way we could find each other.
I was so tired after so I just went and Laid in the park for an hour and took a power nap under a tree before meeting Rob and badger at 7.
We met at the hostel bar and had a few drinks together and met a guy from Virginia. We all took off to go to the lowenbrau bier garten for dinner.
I am so glad I met these guys and I really have been having a lot of fun with them. I would be quite lonely if it weren't for them.
We went back to cafe kosmos for a beer together and played cards! I had a very long day of me the next day but I figured I had to live up every moment with these guys because I won't be able to hang out with them much longer :/
Today was a wonderful day and I actually really enjoyed being on my own and exploring Munich! I am really fallin. In love with Munich! I keep thinking how badly I wish my family was here to experience this all with me!
To top the day off, I took the tram home alone at 2:30 am and met an actually badger. We all seem to cling together when we cross paths! What a small world
(I am falling a little behind with this blog!!)
