"Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where it starts
They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost"
-Avicii wake me up
This song will forever remind me of my trip to Denmark! It is played all over town, everytime we go out, and it is everyone's favorite song. I am also really enjoying Danish music as well. I like to pretend I know the words :)
We were up today at 7 am and caught a ferry to Fanø which is an island off of Esbjerg.
There is this soccer tournament called the Fanø cup. Marike and her handball friends put a team together and played in the tournament. They just did it for fun and laughs but some people take it pretty seriously. We all cracked our first beer open at 9 am.
We literally just laid in the grass and watched soccer in the sun all day. To me it seemed like the whole town was there and it was the place to be today.
I tried pølsemix which was cut up sausages mixed with fries, ketchup and curry ketchup. All of the girls kept saying that it is deliciously gross so of course I had to try it. They were very right!
Then there was a tent party in the evening where we all just hung out and danced. It was so much fun dancing to Danish music and hearing American music that they love here in Denmark.
Except this was the first time I have felt a little homesick since I have been gone. :/ They played Country Roads and Sweet Caroline and I really missed my friends and home. All the Danes I have met and gotten to know all are very proud to be from Denmark and there is a noticeable strong sense of pride here. It is really cool to be apart of a culture like this. When people ask me about Denmark and the drinking culture (which is really large and they start at a young age) I tell them about Wisconsin about how proud we are to be from the state, similar to them. I have loved bragging about Wisconsin, our culture, and being a badger. :)
I am reppin' Wisconsin, don't worry :)
We had a blast and we were picked up from Marikes dad at 1 am at the ferry. We could not wait to go to sleep after a long day of beer and sun!
