I woke up in the morning and got talking to this guy named Andrew who went out to the club with us a few nights ago. I told him I didn't have a chance to go swimming in the river in the English garden and that I was pretty bummed. He told me how awesome it was and that he would do it with me if I wanted to go.
I figured I could do that and them head to fussen to see Tom. We got our things together and hopped on the tram.
It is one of those things that isn't that great to do alone so I was glad he wanted to go again.
It was hard to keep in touch with Tom because of the whole wifi ordeal and we didn't have a plan made yet.
Usually the current of the river is very very strong because of the surfers but it doesn't pick up until the afternoon, as we learned when we got there. It was still flowing at a pretty good pace but definitely not as strong. I was a little disappointed at first. We hopped in and I was instantly very very satisfied. It was late morning and already 90 degrees so the river was extremely refreshing! The current was still carrying us down the river, so much it was challenging to stand without getting carried away. Usually there are a lot of people swimming when the big current is going. This morning there were only 5 we saw along the way so it was super relaxing! We would swim under bridges and grab on to the top and use the bars as monkey bars. It was fun but much harder than I expected! We flowed all the way down the river and climbed up the long later to get out. We hopped on the tram soaking wet to take us back to our backpacks (that's how long the river is).
We have ourselves 20min to lay out in the sun and them I had to leave to go see Tom.
We were sitting in the patch of grass with a little creek in front of us. On the other side of the creek was the nudest beach. Interesting.
For lunch we had another döner kebab!
I got back to the hostel and I still hadn't heard from Tom. I didn't know what to do and Andrew said he was going to Innsbruck Austria if I wanted to go with him. I had already booked a hostel in Salzburg but I had heard just incredible things about Innsbruck. It is a ski town in the Austrian alps and I felt like I just had to go. I emailed my hostel and they said it was too late to cancel so I had to pay a fee. I was totally fine with that because I felt it would be so worth it going to Innsbruck.
I was indecisive so I flipped a coin. It is true that when you flip a coin and the coin is in the air, you know exactly how you want it to land, making up yor mind.
Heads= Salzburg
Tails= Innsbruck
And head it was. But I went to Innsbruck!
I said goodbye to Molly and Erin and we hopped on a train to garmish Germany!
The train ride only got more beautiful as we traveled closer to the alps.
We arrived in garmish and walked around through cute little neighborhoods. We even saw a new born baby coming home from the hospital. They looked like they had absolutely no idea what to do. It was so cute.
We walked around through town and found a restaurant with beer and schnitzel and knew this was the place to eat!
It was actually the best schnitzel either of us has had in Germany!
We knew the bus to Innsbruck came every hour. Dinner was taking longer than expected so instead of taking the 8:20 bus we decided to just take the 9:20 bus.
Dinner was great and we started heading back to the station to hop on the bus. We walked through town as it was getting dark and it was exactly what I expected of a little German town in the mountains.
Well a bus driver took us to a taxi cab and explained our situation. Neither of them spoke English too well so it made it pretty challenging. Andrew knows German well so he was trying to communicate with them but it was not working out well.
All we heard was €100 euro for a 40 minute drive from garmish to Innsbruck. That is way to expensive and obviously much cheaper to just stay in a hostel for the night and travel in the morning. A man who spoke English a little came up and explained the situation.
He told us that we were able to take the taxi can to Innsbruck and the bus driver could fill out a ticket and they could report it to the government and the government will pay for the travel.
We had absolutely no clue what that meant but we hopped in the cab and it sounded better than finding a hostel.
The drive was hilarious. The driver just had the music cranked and we were cruisin through the mountains while it was lightening, lighting up the beautiful sky, all on the governments dime. Still don't know how that happened but we didn't want to ask questions.
We asked him if he knew where andrews hostel was and we looked it up on his gps and it was 40 min away from the main train station in Innsbruck.
What the heck! It is 10:30 and we had absolutely no way to get to the hostel in the mountains at this hour.
Long story short: after spending an hour walking in the rain and having a 5 star hotel call cheap hostels for us, everything was booked. They gave us €60 off of a room for the night so Andrew made the decision for us to stay there.
Fancy that! Two backpackers never should be caught dead in this classy of a place. It was quite embarrassing how we looked actually but it was the best decision! Otherwise we would have been sitting/not sleeping in the train station.
It was a wonderful treat from hostel living especially after a pretty hectic day.
