Oh, Brussels

July 9, 2013

A bit of a later start to the day than we wanted but at least we had free breakfast from our hotel.

The night before we talked with a man at dinner and he gave us all of the hotspots to see in Brussels.
Our impression of Brussels was a little biased because we were staying in a bizarre neighborhood. We walked to the grand place and our impressions changed dramatically.

It was a really neat area with many people around and a lot going on.

My quote for the day is "life is full of important choices."

We either could rent bikes and see all the hotspots around the city or just go with the flow and see where we end up.

We decided to just wander around through the quant cobble stone roads and see where we end up.

We decided to get a beer to start off the day.  Of course, one beer just leads to another.

We ended up just spending the day going to different restaurants/bars and trying different Belgian beers. This is exactly what we needed though because we all were feeling a bit burned out from being tourists the past week in Rome and Paris. We needed a breather.

We took part in a lot of typical Belgian activities though. The little seeds in the picture below is a grain called malt that they use to make beer. I had never tried them before and they tasted so good with beer!  It's my new thing :)

Of course, we had to try a Belgian waffle.
There were so many to choose from. I got one with Carmel sauce on it and it was delicious.

Here we are drinking beer and eating our waffles. Afterwards we (the boys) played darts in a bar for quite a while.

We could not figure out the story behind this little boy and we asked some people around. We learned that back in the day there was a fire in the city and a little boy put it out by peeing on the fire. So this statue was literally all around town.

We ended the night at a bar delirium and they have a Guinness world record for having the most beers on tap and in bottles.

I tried 7 new beers in Belgium that I can add to my list!

Fun day in Brussels!!!
