Feeling like home in Århus

July 16,2013

Yesterday, after spending 6 hours in the prague airport, I arrived in Copenhagen at 6:30 pm. I have never arrived in a place with less of a plan than when I landed in Copenhagen. Marike made it sound like it was pretty simple to get on the train and head to Aarhus, so I really just banked on that. Right before I left the Internet in the Prague airport i quickly looked up trains and saw i had to get to terminal 3. I had very little faith but my luggage was there, bought a train ticket (403 kroner and i swiped my card, with absolutely  no clue how much that is converted in USD) and had 3 minutes to spare before the train arrived at 7:06. Marike and i had communicated about me taking the train but we didn't really discuss times so last night at 11:30 pm when I got off the train in Århus, I was a titch nervous.  I walked about 10 feet and there she was!!! I was very relieved because I wAs pretty tired and very hungry.

It was so wonderful waking up today with no set plans for the day and knowing i had a local to show me around (so I didn't have to feel like a lost tourist with a huge map like I have felt the past 2 weeks).

Here is a picture of the outside of Marikes apartment which is right in the heart of the city.

We ran to the grocery store and made a yummy breakfast. I am falling in love with the pancakes I have had in Norway and Denmark.

We also put eggs on a roll and she told me to put curry ketchup on top! I have never tried it before but I have a feeling I will be eating it everyday here in Denmark.

Everyday i ate goat cheese in Norway, ketchup and mayo mixture (with Tim) thought our euro trip, and now curry ketchup in Denmark.

Marike was a sport putting up with my needs! She showed me how to do laundry (which I have never been more happy to do in my life) and she had fingernail polish and remover (which I forgot). These two things I have been dying to do since I left Norway!!!

Århus is a beautiful city and I feel like I am at home here. I realized it is because is is very similar to Madison. There are a lot of young people out and about with a lot going on out on the streets. There are cute streets with stores (like stAte street) and farmers markets.

Here is a taste of the town...

I am so happy to be with Marike again!  She has pictures of Africa up all around her room! It's so fun that we are together again after 2 years.

She keeps laughing at my touristy ways. There is a national park close by Århus and I told her it would be fun to go and I could get a stamp for my national park passport. She started cracking up and reminded me of when we were On safari and I made our tour guide stop the Matatu in Africa so I could get a stamp for my book. "Dang Americans, needing to have proof that they get out of their own country".

This will be along couple of weeks ;)
